Fertilizing Tips

Grass grows all the time which means that it requires a steady diet of nitrogen, potassium and other nutrients. Even though the soil is full of nutrients that grass needs to grow, it does not supply the grass as fast or in the quantities that it needs. Because of this, a well balanced fertilizer program can supply the right nutrients in the correct amounts at the best time for your lawn. This program should supply uniform growth throughout the season. With a balanced program, the grass will build carbohydrate reserves and develop a strong root system while meeting the needs of the growing grass.

Your lawn is an extension of your home....a place where you spend time with your family and friends.

Don't settle for anything less than a thick and healthy lawn that stays dark green all season long.

Lawn Mowing
Are you dreading another day of mowing when you can be out relaxing in the nice weather? Contact us today to start your mowing program. Your property will be mowed once per week once the grass growing season begins, from approximately May 1 through October 31. Mower blades will be sharp at all times to provide a high quality cut and minimize disease. All sidewalks, fences, driveways, parking lots, other surfaced areas bordered by grass, buildings adjacent to turf, and trees, plant rings and beds will be trimmed at every mowing. Seasonal accounts will have the walkways/driveways and curbs edged as needed at no additional charge. We will clean all clippings from sidewalks, curbs, and roadways immediately after mowing and/or edging. Remember, satisfaction is guaranteed.

Fertilizing
Do you want more than just an average looking lawn? Then contact us and leave your lawn fertilizing to the professionals. Your property will be fertilized using dry granular fertilizers. We do not use phosphorus based fertilizers. The granules will be blown away from any hard surfaces and back onto the lawn to eliminate runoff into the sewers, streams, and lakes. We generally fertilize four to five times a year every 6-8 weeks. Fertilizing frequency will be discussed with the client and a schedule will be determined to meet the client’s needs.

Weeding Control
Do weeds in your lawn have you feeling down? Contact us today to find out how to cure your lawn of weeds. A general broadleaf weed control by spot spraying is part of the fertilizer program package and will be completed after the fertilizer is applied using the least toxic Integrated Pest Management (I.P.M.) procedures. We will also inspect lawn areas each visit for indications of pest or fungus problems and advise you of such problems.

All pesticide applications will be made in accordance with the rules and regulations governing use of pesticides in Wisconsin.

Spring/Fall Clean-up
Spring: Not looking forward to raking thatch this spring? Then contact us today and let us clean up your property. This service is generally performed in mid April to mid May and includes a light de-thatching of the lawn, lawn vacuuming, mowing and trimming all turf areas if needed, edging, leaf collecting, blowing out rock beds and walkways, and disposal. You may specify any additional work to be done. This service is performed once per contract year.

Fall: Tired of raking those endless amounts of leaves? Then contact us today and let us clear your yard of this frustration. This service includes leaf collecting, mowing and trimming all turf areas if needed, edging, blowing out rock beds and walkways, and disposal. You may specify any additional work to be done. The fall cleanup is performed twice per contract year beginning in mid to late October and ending early to mid November depending on the weather. Single cleanups are also available.

Core aerification and dethatching>
Core aeration is one of the healthiest things you can do for a lawn. Aerification is the mechanical removal of soil cores. It is used to relieve compaction, reduce thatch, improve water and air movement into the soil, increase rooting, and improve turfgrass health. Aeration is used most commonly in areas that have been compacted, such as heavy traffic areas.

Thatch is a mix of dead and living material that accumulates on the soil surface. Thatch accumulates due to over-fertilization, over-watering, and/or soil compaction. A small amount of thatch is desirable because it helps to moderate soil temperature fluctuations and provides a cushion on the soil surface. But too much thatch interferes with water and air movement, reduces fertilizer and pesticide response, and increases disease and insect activity.

Pruning or Trimming
Properly maintained trees add great value to your property which increases every year. Pruning or Trimming can improve your trees in many ways. We can remove any down fall, potentially danergous limbs and can honor other specific requests.

These include:

  • Elevating lower lims
  • Thinning for light and wind filtration
  • Eliminating weight at end of limbs to prevent splitting or limb failure
  • Thinning for visibility

Snow Plowing
Are you tired of breaking your back on that heavy wet snow? Stay warm and safe and leave the snow plowing to us. Contact us for information about our snow removal agreements available to suit your needs. We generally will start plowing when at least 1 1/2 inches of snow has accumulated and will return every 4-6 inches of accumulation. We do accept vacation and one time storm services as well. Sidewalk and walkway shoveling is also available.

Please feel free to contact us or request an estimate.
